Nogales, Sonora, Mexico / Tucson, Arizona – A new anonymous tip has reignited the search for Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrie.
After a volunteer search organization received information claiming she could be buried in an unmarked grave near the U.S.-Mexico border.

The search was carried out by Buscando Corazones Nogales, a volunteer group led by Ramona Guadalupe Ayala Ortiz, which specializes in locating missing persons in northern Mexico.
Working alongside the Sonora State Commission for the Search of Missing Persons, volunteers explored the remote Mariposa area, northwest of Nogales, following the anonymous report.
Despite hours of searching, officials and volunteers found no evidence linking the location to Nancy Guthrie, and no human remains matching her description were recovered.
Authorities emphasized that the anonymous claim has not been verified and that the investigation remains active.

Nancy Guthrie disappeared from her home in Catalina Foothills, near Tucson, Arizona, on February 1, 2026. Investigators from the Pima County Sheriff’s Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) have treated the case as a suspected abduction after finding evidence that she may have been taken against her will.
Sheriff Chris Nanos confirmed that his office is aware of the reports from Mexico but said local investigators have not received official confirmation connecting the search area to the case.
Volunteer leader Ramona Guadalupe Ayala Ortiz said her organization plans additional search operations in the region, noting that the area has previously yielded numerous unmarked graves connected to other missing persons cases.

As of the latest official update, Nancy Guthrie remains missing, no arrests have been announced, and authorities have not confirmed the anonymous claim regarding a grave in Mexico.
