Dad of Summer Wells shares heartbreaking message to daughter, 10, on anniversary of disappearance as cops issue update

THE dad of a missing girl has emotionally marked five years since his daughter disappeared by telling The U.S. Sun about the hellish nightmare which has rocked their family.

Summer Wells vanished from her home in Tennessee on June 15, 2021 and has never been found.

Summer was just five years old at the time she went missing.

She was last seen planting flowers with her grandmother and mother before going into the Well’s family home Hawkins County, Tennessee and vanishing.

Her parents, Candus and Don Wells, believe she may have been abducted while they weren’t paying attention.

In an exclusive interview with The U.S. Sun, distraught Don said the pain of not knowing if his little girl is still alive is too much to bear.

The nightmare situation is putting his faith to the test.

“For five years old she knew clearly who God is,” he said.

“You can’t put this kind of love in words. It’s past words. It can only be an embrace now. We love you Summer. Our whole family does. We miss you so much. Sweetheart, God always wins.

“Until then we cry until God will wipe away our tears and we’re forever together.

“That’s enough. It hurts too much.”

Don said that Summer went into the basement to play with her toys and hasn’t been seen since.

“I know in my heart and in my mind, she was abducted,” Don told NewsNation in June 2023.

“Someone snuck up there and we were not exactly paying attention.

“And we don’t know if they came in the basement and grabbed her or if she stepped outside the basement and was walking to her swing or something.”

On the fifth anniversary of her disappearance, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation confirmed there are still no new leads in her case.

“While there are no new developments to announce publicly, the investigation remains active and ongoing,” the bureau said.

“Every credible lead continues to be evaluated, and our determination to find the truth has not changed.”

Don said that he will “never quit” looking for Summer.

“Every store, every gas station, everywhere you go you are always looking,” he continued. “Nothing is what it use to be.  Every building, or house, or shack, is suspicious. Summer could be in another country.

“At the time there were open borders. She could be anywhere, but a parent never quits looking.”

Authorities said they remain committed to uncovering what happened, and asked anyone with credible information to contact the agency.

“From the very beginning, our focus has been on Summer and finding out what happened to her,” TBI Director David Rausch said on Monday.

“We never imagined her case would remain unsolved 5 years later.

“We have made progress over the last year, but there are still many unanswered questions.

“We continue to urge anyone with firsthand information regarding Summer’s disappearance to come forward. Even the smallest detail could make all the difference in this case.”

The TBI also confirmed they are still working alongside the FBI and the Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office as they purse all credible leads.

The most recent information shared by officials outside of age progression pH๏τos came in November 2025 after the TBI followed up on a new lead.

Authorities searched an area located around 9.8 miles from Summer’s family home on November 13, 2025, but the TBI could not confirm any details of the tip, according to WVLT.

In June 2023, Don told CBS affiliate WVLT that the family believes her possible abduction was a “professional situation” where someone “had probably been watching her for a while.”

“She’s obviously not in school anywhere, or there’s no record of her anywhere,” he said.

“So, she’s either you know, in someone’s basement, deceased, or we just don’t know – or in another country.”

Just one month after Summer disappeared, Don and Candus had their three sons taken from them.

Don admitted on the Jay is 4 Justice podcast that child services got involved following he had “an episode of drinking” after accusations about him being involved in his daughter’s disappearance got to him.

He claims local authorities “stole” his boys and their actions only made the situation worse.

“They took three of the five witnesses the day Summer disappeared,” Don told The U.S. Sun.

“We could never work as a family to find her.  I have to keep my eye on God’s Help because none of those so called professionals helped at all. They only magnified the chaos.

“Our boys didn’t deserve any of that, and Summer didn’t stand a chance after they stripped the family apart.”

Four members of The Behavior Panel agreed that Don didn’t hurt his daughter after interviewing him for two hours before he appeared on Dr Phil in November 2021.

“Right now, with everybody attacking us and all this stuff going on, it’s probably better for them,” he said at the time.

He was arrested in October 2021 for driving under the influence and later pleaded guilty to the charge.

Anyone with information on Summer’s case has been asked to contact the TBI at 1-800-TBI-FIND or TipsToTBI@tbi.tn.gov.
