Austin Metcalfâs dad slams The View for supporting sonâs killer Karmelo Anthony in 1st TV interview since conviction
THE grieving father of murdered teen Austin Metcalf has blasted The View for defending his sonâs convicted killer.
In his first television interview since the guilty verdict, Jeff Metcalf accused The View host Sunny Hostin and other commentators of spreading âlies and mistruthsâ without knowing the facts.

6Austin, 17, was fatally stabbed during a high school track meet in Frisco, Texas, on April 2, 2025.
Karmelo Anthony, 19, was convicted of murder on June 9 and sentenced to 35 years behind bars.
But Jeff said public figures had continued to push their own versions of the case despite the evidence presented at trial.
âPeople had their own opinions without even seeing the facts, and thatâs the part I have trouble with,â he told Fox News host Will Cain on Monday.
âUnfortunately, in todayâs moral decay of society that weâve witnessed, people believe that if they have their own voice, they scream loud enough, theyâre right.â
Jeff was specifically asked about Hostinâs claim on an episode of The View that the jury should have accepted Anthonyâs argument that he acted in self-defense, saying there âseems to be two systems of justice in this country.â
âThe kid that died was 200 pounds, this kid was 130 pounds, and the other kid was taller than he is,â Hostin said.
âHe was the only black kid under the tent, and the victim here had his twin brother with him who was also a very large person.â
Hostin also argued that Anthony did not have âa jury of his peersâ during the trial, noting that âon appeal, there is a legitimate reason.â
Jeff, however, saw things differently.
âThey donât know me. They donât know Hunter, Austin. They donât know Karmelo,â he replied.
âTheyâre looking for their 15 minutes of fame or their clickbait.

6âTheyâre looking to monetize the death of my son. I really wish they wouldnât speak about it at all.â
Addressing Hostinâs comments directly, Jeff said, âShe has no idea on the facts of the case, but she wants to spew her public opinion on a platform that reaches millions of people every day.
âShe is completely wrong.â
He then challenged the ABC talk show to invite him on so he could confront the panel himself.
âCall me, ask me to be on The View with them,â he said.
âI would gladly â fly me up there and let me talk to all of you.â
Jeff said newly released footage from the fatal confrontation should help correct misinformation spread before Anthonyâs trial.
The video shows Anthony confronting Austin inside a team tent, the fatal stabbing and the teenager running from the scene.
Bodycam footage also captured Anthony correcting an officer who referred to him as an âalleged suspect.â
âIâm not alleged. I did it,â he was heard saying.
In another clip, Anthony appeared to sob as he was escorted away from the track meet.
âHe put his hands on me,â he said. âI told him not to. He put his hands on me.â

6Anthonyâs lawyers argued at trial that he acted in self-defense after Austin pushed him during a confrontation inside the tent.
The defense also suggested Austin may have impaled himself on the knife.
But witnesses testified that Anthony entered another teamâs tent and warned Austin: âTouch me and see what happens.â
Austin then pushed him before Anthony pulled out a knife and stabbed him once in the chest, according to the testimony.
A medical examiner said the blade pá´ssed through the bone in the center of Austinâs chest and punctured the right side of his heart.
Austinâs twin brother, Hunter, desperately rushed to help him as Anthony fled and allegedly tried to blend into groups leaving the stadium.
Anthonyâs supporters collapsed outside the Collin County courthouse when the guilty verdict was announced.
Former Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett later told TMZ that she believed the teenager had been wrongfully convicted.
She claimed the case showed a âbrokenâ justice system and questioned the 35-year punishment for a single stab wound.
âThirty-five years for a kid who decided to go under a tent that was not his teamâs tent as it was raining and simply didnât want to be put out in the rain by some random kid that he didnât know who was larger than him?â Crockett said.
She also argued that Anthony was not breaking the law by carrying the knife, even if it violated school rules.
Crockett claimed race played a role because Anthony is black, Austin was white and the jury did not include any black members.
âOh my God, I know Collin County, so absolutely,â she said.
âAnd unfortunately that was not the county for a black boy.â
But Jeff rejected claims that the case was about race, noting that around half the players on Austinâs football team were black.
âI donât care what color you are, I want to judge you on how you treat people, whatâs your character like,â he said.
âYour color makes no difference, it doesnât determine your IQ, it doesnât determine your faith, it doesnât determine how much money you have.
âBut your character shows who you are truly and thatâs how I judge people.â
Jeff said he had initially tried to prevent the tragedy from becoming politically or racially divisive.
He attended a press conference held by Anthonyâs family hoping to pray with them and show that the killing did not need to create a racial divide.
âI was hoping for some accountability maybe and some remorse â and neither one was shown,â he said.
Jeff was removed from the event by activist Dominique Alexander, who represented Anthonyâs family at the time.
âThatâs when they took it from any type of remorse, which they did not show, to the fact that now weâre gonna play the race card and now weâre gonna politicize this,â Jeff said.
A six-member legal team is now working without charge to challenge Anthonyâs murder conviction.
The team includes Texas NAACP President Gary Bledsoe, appellate attorney Russell Wilson and civil rights lawyer Brooke Cluse.
The Stand With Karmelo Coalition said it will independently review the trial record and pursue every available route of appeal.
Its lawyers will examine whether errors were made during the proceedings and whether any could justify overturning the conviction.
But Judge John Roach, who presided over the trial, said he believed the jury reached the correct result.
âYes, they did, because they were picked based upon the law, they listened to the facts,â he told WFAA.
âIt happened in this courtroom, and they got a verdict.â
Roach said officials had prepared for the closely watched trial for eight months.
âAs long as I follow the law, I sleep well at night,â he added.
