‘Guys, the rope!’ Witness’s desperate cry moments before 21-year-old bungee jumper’s fatal plunge as fiancé watched and six people were arrested

What was meant to be an adrenaline-filled adventure ended in unimaginable tragedy after a 21-year-old university student shared a joking message online just moments before a bungee jump that would become her final post

Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas, a physical education and sports management student, posted an ominous message to her Instagram Story on Saturday before taking part in a bungee jumping event in Limeira, São Paulo, Brazil.

“Who was the crazy person who let me jump off a bridge???” she wrote playfully, unaware that the lighthearted comment would later take on heartbreaking significance.

Instead of the thrilling experience she expected, authorities say the young woman fell approximately 130 feet after the bungee operator allegedly failed to attach the safety cord to her harness before she was sent over the edge, according to Brazilian outlet O Globo.

The devastating incident was captured on video and later circulated on social media. The footage reportedly shows Maria Eduarda being guided toward the edge of the abandoned structure known as the “Skeleton Bridge” before beginning the jump.

Seconds later, panic erupts.

The person recording the incident can reportedly be heard shouting, “Guys, the rope!” while pointing toward the safety cord that appeared to have been left on the bridge instead of being connected to the participant.

Emergency responders rushed to the scene, but Maria Eduarda was pronounced ᴅᴇᴀᴅ at the location.

According to police, her fiancé witnessed the entire incident unfold, adding another layer of heartbreak to the tragedy.

Authorities quickly launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal accident. Six people have since been arrested in connection with the case, including three individuals who were present at the jump site.

Military police also reported that two suspects allegedly attempted to flee following the incident but were later located in a wooded area with the ᴀssistance of a police helicopter.

The case has sparked widespread outrage and renewed debate over safety standards for extreme adventure activities, with investigators continuing to examine whether proper procedures were followed before the fatal jump.
