MUM’S ANGUISH ‘That damned rope took you away forever,’ distraught mum of bungee jumper, 21, blasts after she was thrown from bridge
THE distraught mum of a bungee jumper who was thrown to her death has raged at the “damned rope” that workers allegedly forgot to attach to her daughter.
Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas, 21, was hurled off a bridge in Limeira, Brazil, plummeting 130ft to her death.
In an Instagram story posted just hours after her daughter’s funeral, mum Valdenia Rodrigues wrote: “That damned rope took you away from me forever.
“My beloved daughter, you are gone and all that remains here is pain and longing.
“I will love you forever.”
Valdenia wrote another emotional tribute on social media, calling her daughter a “princess”.
She wrote: “My beloved daughter, today alone I wanted to hug you more than a thousand times.
“How much your departure hurts me. I love you eternally, my princess. And thank you so much for being a part of my life for these 21 years.
“What an honor it was to hear you call me mom. God, thank you for this privilege.
Horrifying video showed the moment she was held in the air by workers and launched off the bridge.
One of Maria’s friends, who witnessed her horror fall, said they had just wanted to “have fun” and he still “can’t believe” what happened.
He wrote on social media: “I think it’s a nightmare and I’m going to wake up.
“You’re the most amazing person I’ve ever met. I love you, girl, I don’t know if I can handle all this.
“I’ll never forget you.”
After Maria hit the ground, police said the workers changed their clothes and at least two allegedly fled the area.
But they were arrested soon afterwards at the Ponte do Esqueleto trail after a chopper tracked them down.
The three men from the video, Luis Felipe Feliciano Egoroff, 32, Vitor de Freitas Gonçalves, 27, and Maicon Fernandes Cintra, 42, have been charged with homicide with implied malice.
Astonishingly, the men told police they cannot remember whose job it was to attach the rope.
Three others were also arrested but not charged.
Egoroff, who said he earned around £26 per jump, told police equipment checks were carried out “jointly.”
Asked who was responsible for the final safety checks for Maria’s jump, he told cops: “I can’t remember.”
Cintra reportedly gave the same answer.
Their lawyer Rafael Gomes dos Santos claimed: “They are in a state of shock.
“They cannot explain what happened because they have been doing this for years. Nothing like this has ever happened.”
It has also emerged that Maria, an aspiring teacher, did not die immediately after falling, according to a nurse who tried to save her.
